(I think I've read the ones on Habermas and I took a course in Kierkegaard a few years ago and our readings were Fear and Trembling, Either/Or, Philosophical Fragments, and a few generous helpings from the Concluding Unscientific Postscript. Presented here in a new translation, with a historical introduction by the translators, Fear and Trembling and Repetition are the most poetic and personal of Søren Kierkegaard's pseudonymous writings. I have had trouble writing it, however, always getting hung up on one particular point. Compare, regarding actualizing the eternal in the temporal (Bergman), the reference on 37 to 'an idea that joined the finite and the infinite'. If anyone, therefore refuses to learn from Christianity how to love himself in the right way, he cannot love his neighbor either. This morning, while reading Kierkegaard's essay on crop rotation (in Either/Or, Part I), I found what I needed. Also 54 Is there not a secretive anxiety and horror in it, because its beautiful harmony works its way out of lawlessness and wild confusion, its security out of perfidy? 'that eternity which lies not outside time but in the midst of it' [51. Allen devotees are familiar with the God talk and death obsession in two books of his collected works — Getting Even (Random House, 1971) and Without Feathers (Random House, 1975). I haven't read Kierkegaard and can't vouch for this particular book, but I have found these "Very Short Introduction" books useful when getting into a new area or author. Soren Kierkegaard's “Works of Love” 4 (Self-love: part 1). Kierkegaard conceived of life as going through three stages: the aesthetic, the ethical and the religious. Works for its message to be understood. The first work in the "Either" part is entitled Diapsalmata, which I have transliterated from Kierkegaard's Greek title. Here are some of my reading notes on the first part of Kierkegaard's Either/Or. In 1847 the Danish philosopher Soren Kierkegaard publish his “Christian reflections” on “the works of love.” I have come to believe that Kierkegaard has been largely misunderstood, misrepresented, and therefore ignored by many Christians, to their own detriment.
